Global Young Leaders of the World Affairs Council

The mission of the nonprofit, nonpartisan World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth is to promote international awareness, understanding and connections to enhance the region’s global stature and to prepare North Texans to thrive in our complex world.  For more than a decade our international education program, Global Young Leaders, has been the epitome of international learning at the high school level.  We honor an International Educator of the Year, 20 Under 20 students who have excelled in global studies, and we provide speakers to classrooms—they discuss careers, issues, and their lives as well as classes for high school teachers.  We have Junior World Affairs Council chapters on more than 60 campuses.  This program creates an intelligent pathway for North Texas high school students to achieve ambitions in international careers.

Mission:  To prepare North Texas students with the tools and skills to make positive change in the North Texas community, effectively interact with people from different backgrounds, and compete for jobs in the global workforce.

Values:  GYL believes that in order to prepare the next generation of North Texas residents to compete in the global economy, they  need global competence skills to solve complex problems, create opportunities for all, and advance a shared respect for human dignity.

Vision:  Students are transformed from observers into informed international participants by gaining global competence skills through educational programs focused on diplomatic leadership, civic engagement, problem solving, and cultural intelligence.
